Information alone is not the answer. Guided mentorship will help you get residents, connect with families and grow occupancy faster.
Here’s something I’ve learned after years of working in senior living and then building a business of my own.
Reading about a strategy and being coached through one are not the same thing.
I have worked with new senior care owners who were typically up late reading yet another article, attending another webinar, watching another Youtube video all in the hopes of trying to piece together a strategy from things found on the internet at 11pm. Alone.
I lived this while transitioning from a corporate executive to an entrepreneur building a business with nobody in the room. And, with no one who understood my vision.
That gap is where good owners quietly stall out.
You cannot learn relationship-based work in isolation.
Senior living isn't a spreadsheet business. Occupancy may show up as a number on a report, but getting there is deeply human.
It runs on trust, timing, and the ability to read a family’s emotions while in the room. That's not a skill you build from a single Youtube video or gain from a digital marketing strategy.
It's a skill you build by doing it, getting feedback, and doing it again with someone in your corner telling you what actually worked and what didn't land. Most owners never get that.
They get licensed, open the doors, and suddenly face a stack of regulations, processes, and protocols to satisfy a compliance checklist. What I continue to see, particularly among independent and residential assisted living owners, is a lack of accessible, ongoing mentorship once the license is issued.
So they default to what's available. Reddit. YouTube. A Facebook group.
Where everyone's guessing together. No Bueno.
Most corporate senior living companies don't have a culture of mentorship you see in other industries. Independent and residential assisted living owners have even less, if any at all.
You opened your home because you had a heart and a vision for this work, not because someone trained you in marketing, sales, or occupancy strategy.
I've spoken to capable, mission-driven owners who spent years struggling and never reached a fully occupied community.
And that's the gap I built my education company around. Not another expensive DIY course you buy and forget about. But, I offer small live cohort experiences and recurring sessions with a person to answer questions.
AI can absolutely help you research ideas, organize a marketing plan, write content, create follow-up messages, and think through problems faster. I use AI in my own business.
But AI cannot:
It also cannot replace the benefit of sitting in a room with someone who actually has been responsible for occupancy growth for years.
AI is a tool. But tools still need judgment. The real advantage comes from knowing what to ask, what advice applies to your situation, what to ignore, and what to actually implement.
Assisted living marketing involves more than posting on social media or running ads.
Owners have to understand their local market, communicate what makes their community different, develop referral relationships, respond effectively to inquiries, conduct strong family visits, and follow up consistently. Those skills interact with one another.
A weakness in one part of the process can affect occupancy even when the rest of your marketing looks good.
A live guided mentorship experience!
Because owners need different levels of support at different stages, I don't teach everything through one program. Here's where each option fits:
The Occupancy Growth Village… a live “village” community for owners and operators who want ongoing marketing and sales support, tools, templates, coaching, and a community where they can ask questions as they implement.
Momentum Marketing Bootcamp…a condensed seven-week live marketing program for owners who need to decide their market position, develop referral relationships, create a practical strategy for growing occupancy and just feel stuck on how to actually get residents.
90 Days to 90% Workshop…a live planning intensive for assisted living owners who need a focused 90-day occupancy and marketing plan rather than just another collection of disconnected tactics.
VIP First Impressions Audit…a live review of the family visit experience (aka tour), from first impression through the community visit, with real-time feedback, an action plan, and 30-day follow-up.
Each one solves a different problem. None of them require you to already know what you're doing before you walk in.
Of everything on that list, the Village is the one I want to discuss for a second. Because, the impact matters.
We're launching it publicly on September 13, which is Grandparents Day. That isn’t by accident.
Everything we do in this industry exists because of the relationship between generations. It felt right to open the doors to a community built for the people serving those families on the exact day set aside to honor the ones we're all doing this for. Our elders.
The Village is for the owner who needs somewhere to bring the question that came up Tuesday afternoon while they were actually trying to introduce themselves to the social worker.
The Founding Neighbor rate is $125 per month through September 30, 2026, or until the first 50 members join.
Low occupancy doesn't automatically mean you're bad at what you do. But it is information.
If your marketing isn't producing the conversations, visits, referrals, and the move-ins you need, something in the strategy needs attention. And, relying solely on senior living advisors leaves you vulnerable.
Sometimes you need someone experienced enough to see what you can't see from inside of your business. I created the missing support you didn't know how to ask for.
This is the EXACT work I did in the corporate world assisting sales teams and communities to achieve their occupancy goals.
What is The Occupancy Growth Village? It's a live community for senior living owners and operators built around real-time support, shared questions, and peer connection, launching publicly in September at a founder's rate of $125 for the month.
When does Momentum Marketing Bootcamp start? The kickoff is September 12th, with the first live session on September 16th.
Is there still time to book the VIP First Impressions & Visit Experience Audit? Yes. There are limited spots available monthly with a few currently open for September.
If you've been trying to figure out the marketing and sales piece of your business alone, between you and me, it is hard and can lead to burn out. To be fair, there was never a room like this built just for you before.
Information about my other programs is available on the Start With Occupancy website. Pick the one that matches where you are now, or schedule a call with me if you’re not sure.
Whichever route you choose, don't measure your progress by how much information you've collected. The goal isn't to have another tab open at eleven o'clock at night.😏
The goal is to know what to do next, do it well, and have somewhere to turn when the answer isn't obvious.😉
Listen and follow the Start With Occupancy Podcast.
